MEMBERSHIP CARDS

Charge the Card Every Month

Turn your best regulars into paying members. Set the tiers, set the price, and let Stripe handle the billing — while the pass itself lives in the wallet on their phone, checked in with one scan.

Try it yourself

A Club Pass That Bills Itself

Pick a tier, then check members in as if you were on the door. Notice what the scanner shows you — and what happens when the included visits run out.

How it works

Customers Pay You Before They Arrive

Every other loyalty card gives something away to earn a visit. A membership card does the opposite: the customer pays first, then keeps coming back to get their money’s worth.

💳1

They pick a tier and pay

Checkout happens on your own Stripe account, so the money lands with you directly. You can offer a free trial of up to thirty days first.

📱2

The pass lands in their wallet

Their name, their tier, their renewal date, and their photo if you want one. It sits next to their boarding passes and bank cards, not buried in an app.

3

Your team scans on arrival

The scanner shows who they are and whether the membership is valid. No list to check, no arguments about whether someone paid.

🔄4

It renews without asking

Stripe charges the next period automatically and the card updates itself. Or turn auto-renewal off and sell a lifetime pass instead.

Two ways to run it

Paid Subscription, or Free Club Pass?

The same card type covers both. Which one you want depends on whether membership is a product you sell, or a status you grant.

Needs Stripe

Paid membership

Customers buy a tier and are charged automatically each period. You get tiers with prices, included visits, free trials, and revenue reporting — recurring revenue, lifetime value, churn.

Gyms, studios, car washes, private clubs, subscription boxes.

Free club pass

No payment, no tiers, no limits. The card simply proves someone belongs — a member, a regular, a VIP. Your team scans it and sees a valid status, and you can still log every visit.

VIP lists, staff perks, alumni, community memberships.

If you want to take money, connect Stripe before you build the card. Payment collection is only available once Stripe is connected, and switching a live card from free to paid is not something you can do cleanly afterwards.

Where it works best

Built for Businesses With Predictable Regulars

If a customer would happily commit to coming several times a month, a membership turns that intention into revenue you can count on.

🏋

Gyms & studios

$39/month · 8 classes included

The obvious fit, and the reason memberships exist. Tiers let a casual member and a five-times-a-week member both find a price that suits them.

🚗

Car washes

$29/month · unlimited washes

The single best use of memberships outside fitness. A monthly pass turns an occasional wash into a habit, and the customer stops comparing prices entirely.

💇

Salons & barbershops

$45/month · one cut, priority booking

The pass books their rhythm for them. Members stop deciding whether to come this month — they have already paid, so they come.

Coffee subscriptions

$25/month · one coffee a day

Locks in the morning before your competitor opens. Most subscribers claim fewer coffees than they paid for, and the ones who claim all of them are in your shop every single day.

🍽

Restaurants & clubs

$99/month · VIP table access

Not for everyone — for the twenty regulars who would pay to skip the queue and always get a table. Small numbers, high margin, very loyal.

💻

Co-working & studios

$120/month · 20 day passes

Access is the product. The scanner answers “is this person allowed in today?” without a receptionist checking a spreadsheet.

Getting the maths right

How Should Your Tiers Be Priced?

Three tiers is usually the sweet spot. Fewer and people have no choice to make; more and they stall.

Tier Price it at Who it is for
Entry2–3 visits’ worthThe casual regular testing the idea
Middle5–6 visits’ worthMost of your members will land here
Top8–10 visits’ worthYour heaviest users, plus a perk they cannot buy otherwise

Price the middle tier so a member who uses it fully saves roughly twenty to thirty percent against paying each time. Enough to feel like a real deal, not so much that your busiest customers cost you money. And give the top tier something that costs you little but cannot be bought — priority booking, a guest pass, first access to new slots.

Worth knowing

Settings Most People Never Find

All of these live in the card builder, and several of them decide whether your membership makes money or leaks it.

🆓

Free trial up to 30 days

Let people join without paying, then bill automatically when the trial ends. The strongest way to convert someone who is curious but not yet convinced.

🏷️

Name your own units

The card can say visits, washes, classes, massages, or day passes. A small thing that makes the pass feel built for your business rather than borrowed.

One check-in per day

Stop a member using two visits in one afternoon. Essential for car washes and anywhere a single visit could be split into several.

📷

Photo on the pass

Show the member’s photo and name on the front of the card. Turns a pass into an ID, which matters when a membership is genuinely worth sharing.

🎫

Promo codes at checkout

Members can enter a code when they subscribe. Useful for launch offers, referrals, and win-back campaigns without changing your listed prices.

📊

Revenue reporting built in

Recurring revenue, average revenue per member, lifetime value, and churn — all calculated for you. This is the only card type that reports like a subscription business.

Before you launch

Four Mistakes That Cost Real Money

Memberships take real money from real people every month. Get these wrong and you will hear about it.

Prices cannot be changed after activation

Once the card is live, tier prices are locked. Test with a handful of people first — only ten can install a card before you activate it, which is exactly what that window is for. If you need different prices later, you are building a new card and migrating members by hand.

Selling unlimited without doing the sums

Unlimited sounds generous and sells well, but a handful of daily users can eat the margin of everyone else. If you offer it, either price it against your heaviest realistic user or cap check-ins to one a day.

Forgetting that a tier must be active

If no tier is switched on with a price and a limit set, the membership level simply will not appear on the front of the card. It looks like a bug and it is not — check your tier settings before you blame the platform.

Treating it like a loyalty card

A stamp card can sit unused for a month and cost you nothing. A membership that goes unused for a month gets cancelled. Send them a reason to come in before the renewal date, every period, or churn will do your marketing for you.

Turn Your Regulars Into Members

Connect Stripe, set your tiers, and start taking recurring payments from the customers who already come every week. The trial costs nothing and needs no card.
